The Story Behind This Piece:

This painting explores the divine and ornate aspect of the unknown. I sought to capture the enigmatic experience of attempting to understand the gifts, talents, and ideas God gave us and how we as His children are meant to steward them. I intentionally painted the background in a deep, mars black to represent the mysterious, unsettling feeling of not knowing what’s next. To complement this, I incorporated subtle streaks of iridescent gold peeking through to portray the transcendent blessings waiting for us when we step out on faith. The subject’s calm expression and closed eyes show a deep trust that our steps are guided even if we don’t know those next steps. I opted for using purple for the subject’s skin tone to further accentuate the correlation between spirituality and mystery while using gold in the headscarf and the frame to exclusively depict divinity.
