The Story Behind This Piece:

This painting depicts a snapshot of changing seasons, specifically the profound transition between winter and spring. The Spring season brings new beginnings, renewal, and rebirth as new light and warmth emerge from a period of persistent cold and darkness. I opted to use an arch-shaped canvas as my painting surface of choice to represent entering a new chapter & phase in life, further communicating Spring’s concept of new beginnings. I explored a warmer color palette of red, orange, yellow, and deep gold hues to convey the sun’s rays bathing the subject in a calming, bright glow, as if she were tenderly kissed by the sun. The contrasting cool tones of the headwrap on the subject’s head represent the remnants of Winter visibly waning and thawing during the transition of seasons. For additional detail touches, I added a rose to represent Spring florals blooming, iridescent gold detailing on the sides of the canvas for visual unity, and pockets of holographic glitter throughout the highlights of the subject that shimmer gorgeously in natural sunlight.
